Mariana Bárcena is a Director at German development bank DEG and responsible for Corporates & Funds providing equity and mezzanine products as direct investments as well as commitments to private equity and mezzanine funds in Latin America. Ms. Bárcena heads a team focused on generating, structuring new business and managing the existing portfolio for the Latin America region. Whereas Mariana is based in Cologne, half of her team is based in DEG`s regional offices in Mexico City and Sao Paulo.
DEG is one of the largest European development finance institutes. It provides long term capital in form of debt, mezzanine and equity to private companies in developing and emerging markets in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe/Russia. DEG’s objective is to generate a positive development impact through its investments while generating a risk-adjusted, sustainable return on its invested capital. In 2016, DEG made new commitments of €1.5 billion. As of the end of 2016 DEG held a portfolio of over € 8.6 billion in more than 80 countries. DEG is part of the KFW Banking Group, which is an AAA-rated German banking group, majority-owned by the German government.
Mariana Bárcena was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, made her scholarship in Bolivia and Argentina and holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the university Georg August Universität zu Göttingen, Germany.
